Greetings

It’s time to buckle up your boots again, apply the eyeliner with a trowel and set your corsets to “stun”. Coven is back next Friday the 10th, Celebrating 10 Years of Chaos at our new deliciously deviant venue, Syrup (upstairs) in Salamanca.

For all those who missed out last time, we have goth shots back again and even more incentive for you to show up early, happy hour. The goth shots are face-rapingly insane. Those from the Trout days can attest to their effectiveness and ability to fuel many a dancing mission all the way through the night! And what better reason to show up and get down to some oldschool before the night ramps up with some cheap happy hour. Last time it was cheap cider and pints, who knows what delights await for those who like to kick the night off with some filthy gothic atmosphere.

Last time was a success of apocalyptic proportions and this Coven will be no different! 11 DJs will slowly massage your brain into dancefloor destruction machine with liberal and subtle application of equal parts darkness, rage and chaos directly injected via the auditory nerve.

So get ready to tear up the dancefloor under the kaleidoscopic lights, to feel the deep vibrations of a sound system loud enough to wake the gods, and to indulge in the delights of the expansive bar, as next Friday we rise once more.

And if you weren’t awesome enough to come along last time, Syrup has everything you’d need to make it, in my opinion, the best venue we’ve had The Coven in. Upstairs, where we inhabit, has a caged lounge area, an awesome bar, retro tabletop games, killer sound system. Syrup also has it’s own cloak room and ATM facility meaning unless you are nicotine addicted, you dont even have to leave the place. Awesome security, close to the 24 hour cab rank and just a stone’s throw from the bakehouse for some regenerative fuel after a night cavorting with the darkside.

So on Friday the 10th of September, this is where you’ll be:
Where: Syrup, upstairs Knopwoods, 39 Salamanca Place, Hobart
When: Friday 10th of September, 10pm onwards
How much: $7+ID, $6 Coven members
Why: Because the Chaos rises and needs to be let out, The Coven style!

Facebook event will be created shortly.

The Coven presents: Spreckenstein - Deformat CD Launch

Topic: Coven, Events, Local gigs, Music| 1 Comment »

Hey Covenites!

Whilst there isn’t a ‘real’ Coven until February, in the meantime we are bringing you something even better to break up your festive season!

The grand unveiling of the debut album ‘DEFORMAT’ by Hobart EBM/Hellektro malcontent SPRECKENSTEIN will be Friday 9th of Jan @ The Brisbane Hotel, 3 Brisbane St, HOBART, Tasmania. 9pm onwards and wonderfully flanked by Djs from Hobart’s premier Goth Nightclub, THE COVEN as well as Victoria’s DJ Ebolabelle (Cabaret Nocturne). 18+ Show, $8 for all the sights and sounds of The Coven plus filthy live EBM to rape your own ears by.

Spreckenstein Deformat Launch Poster

Spreckenstein is Gothic Electro outfit from Hobart Tasmania, masterminded by Duncan Brown (who DJs under the name Spreckenstein at Covens). Wandering the lines of gothic music subgenres, Spreckenstein moves between Electronic Body Music, 90’s Trance, Aggrotech and synthpop. Joined onstage by Chrissy Paplos (guest vocals; Coven DJ Maggot) and Josh Ristrom (keyboards) of Hobart experimental metal band Solar Thorn, Spreckenstein is an amalgamation of solid beats, vicious synths, big basslines and harsh vocals.

So buckle up your boots, tighten your corset, don your hazmat suit and dont forget eye protection as too much bass and lasers can be hazardrous to those lacking in the hardcore department.

Checkout the tunes here: http://www.myspace.com/spreckensteinmusic

Where: The Brisbane Hotel, 3 Brisbane St, Hobart.

COVEN Poster:

Hi there, here’s the poster for next week’s Coven.

Still ironing out the details on this one, but after last time, we’re hoping for some radness. We’ve got another new light for the rig, albeit a replacement. We now have a Light Emotion LED Blacklight Panel. It’s quite bright, but being LED its coverage is confined to a relatively narrow beam. The cool thing is you can set it to strobe, sound activated or random patterns.

Oh and a bit of shameless self promotion…

The first album by local ebm/synthpop outfit SPRECKENSTEIN is due out quite soon. 13 Tracks of insanity ranging from cheesey synthpop, biting aggrotech and trance inspired EBM with fantastic postapocalyptic artwork done by local graphics design guru StygianStudio (Coven DJ MANDRAX). It will probably be about $20 available from me at Coven, and from my myspace. Checkit.See you next Friday.

- Sprecky
PS… with the weather getting warmer, what do you think about a Coven BBQ, probably at Cascade Gardens on a Saturday afternoon?
