Greetings

It’s time to buckle up your boots again, apply the eyeliner with a trowel and set your corsets to “stun”. Coven is back next Friday the 10th, Celebrating 10 Years of Chaos at our new deliciously deviant venue, Syrup (upstairs) in Salamanca.

For all those who missed out last time, we have goth shots back again and even more incentive for you to show up early, happy hour. The goth shots are face-rapingly insane. Those from the Trout days can attest to their effectiveness and ability to fuel many a dancing mission all the way through the night! And what better reason to show up and get down to some oldschool before the night ramps up with some cheap happy hour. Last time it was cheap cider and pints, who knows what delights await for those who like to kick the night off with some filthy gothic atmosphere.

Last time was a success of apocalyptic proportions and this Coven will be no different! 11 DJs will slowly massage your brain into dancefloor destruction machine with liberal and subtle application of equal parts darkness, rage and chaos directly injected via the auditory nerve.

So get ready to tear up the dancefloor under the kaleidoscopic lights, to feel the deep vibrations of a sound system loud enough to wake the gods, and to indulge in the delights of the expansive bar, as next Friday we rise once more.

And if you weren’t awesome enough to come along last time, Syrup has everything you’d need to make it, in my opinion, the best venue we’ve had The Coven in. Upstairs, where we inhabit, has a caged lounge area, an awesome bar, retro tabletop games, killer sound system. Syrup also has it’s own cloak room and ATM facility meaning unless you are nicotine addicted, you dont even have to leave the place. Awesome security, close to the 24 hour cab rank and just a stone’s throw from the bakehouse for some regenerative fuel after a night cavorting with the darkside.

So on Friday the 10th of September, this is where you’ll be:
Where: Syrup, upstairs Knopwoods, 39 Salamanca Place, Hobart
When: Friday 10th of September, 10pm onwards
How much: $7+ID, $6 Coven members
Why: Because the Chaos rises and needs to be let out, The Coven style!

Facebook event will be created shortly.

When: Friday 13th August 2010, 10pm till late
Where:
Upper Level, Syrup Nightclub, Salamanca Place
Bring: $7 + ID ($6 members)
Why: Because you can only dance in your seat for so long
What:

Greetings Covenites

The wait is over, the darkness has been absent too long. The time has come to spread our midnight black wings and take to the skies once more. The Coven has returned. 10 years on and still infecting minds with the aural blasphemy of Goth, Industrial, EBM, Metal and Dark Alternative.

On Friday the 13th of August, 2010, The Coven returns to Salamanca, and to the central bastion of Electronic Dance music in Hobart, Syrup Nightclub. Come celebrate 10 years of The Coven with a Friday the 13th event at the premier dance music nightclub in Hobart.

We will be running on the upstairs floor of the venue and there will be a separate stamp/cover for Coven goers and a bouncer on the second stairwell to prevent cross contamination with the downstairs crowd. Upstairs is completely self contained, with a bangin’ sound system, awesome lights, multiple dancefloor areas and a well stocked bar. Syrup also has a well organised crowd controller team keeping the front smoking area safe from potential undesirables. It is also located close to the cab rank, ATMs and the 24 hour bakery for all your post gothification needs.

Dust off your corset, apply your warpaint, charge up your tactical headgear and recalibrate the tension on your brute force stomping devices (aka: boots), because The Coven has 10 years worth of hatred built up and we need to release it in true Coven fashion! Destroy your liver, then destroy your feet, dance the top floor into the bottom and celebrate with me!

Djs Spreckenstein, Digi, Oblivion and Changeling shall be providing the soundtrack of armageddon so expect the usual spread of Goth/Industrial/EBM/Metal/Dark Alternative, now with a radtacular soundsystem! More DJs to be announced.

More info to come.

See you on the 13th

No Coven in June

Topic: Coven, Events| No Comments »

Due to the changeover of ownership at Halo, we will not be running a Coven in June. We are currently investigating what our options are in terms of venue and will announce where and when the next event will be. As you can imagine, this is mildly annoying as this was going to be the 10 year anniversary event, and we were only made aware of these developments relatively recently.

Fortunately we’ve had some rather promising information come to light so we’re hoping the downtime between Coven events will be as little as possible.

Above all, it doesn’t matter where we have Coven, as long as it happens, and Coven is not the venue, but its the people, the music (and a rather large amount of alcohol) that make it all work. We could run the event at a lot of places but securing the right one is the important thing for us, so we can have a safe goth friendly environment where we can all relax, and generally cause chaos without potential nastiness.

Hopefully we’ll have some news to deliver soon, but in the meantime we’d like to thank you for coming along and making Coven what it is.

If you’ve got anything you’d like to add, any input you’d like to put forward, head over to the discussions page of the “The Coven Nightclub” group and let us know there.

See you on the dancefloor at the next Coven

The Coven: May 7th 2010

As it gets cooler, the days get shorter and the sun leaves us for greater departures each day. All these signal arrival of that time of year, they are the heralds of the season of gothness, a time when goths thrive in their natural environment, and the perfect time for The Coven.

When mere mortal humans are rugging up on a Friday night in front of the football on their televisions in the comfort of their dens of normalcy and mediocrity, there are stirrings in the shadows of the city. On the right day, at the right time, whispers build to voices as one approaches the darkened alley in the heart of the city. The symphony advances upwards to a crescendo of chaos as one enters the doorway and climbs the stairs. Inside: a goth/industrial modern bacchanalia… The Coven

Set your boots to “stomp”, your corsets to “crush”, your eyeliner to “black like your soul” and prepare to dance the cold right out of your extremeties, The Coven returns once again to deliver your monthly dose of evil directly into your veins. This month The Coven plays host to members of the Hobart Photographic Society who will be floating around the fringes to capture your souls in 2 dimensional form, so be sure to dress your best and show them true goth hospitality, and if you’re lucky we’ll get some awesome photographic evidence of your gothness to put up on the website! We’ve worked with these guys before and their work is rather excellent!

Bringing you the terrifying soundtrack to this orgy of alcohol, dancing and general merriment and frivolity are DJs Anatomical Sheath, Changeling, Digi, Dishlexia, Mandrax, Oblivion, Ozmosis, Ramiel, Sigil and Spreckenstein, serving you the finest in GOTH, INDUSTRIAL, EBM, AGGROTECH, METAL and DARK ALTERNATIVE.

What: THE COVEN
Where: HALO nightclub. 37a Elizabeth st (Access via Purdy’s Mart, behind the Mall, off Collins st)
When: Friday, 7th May 2010, 10pm onwards
Cost: $7+ID ($6 members)
Why: Dance your coldness away, Celebrate with some total goffix insanity

BLUT ROT II is Tomorrow!

Topic: Coven| No Comments »

Blut Rot II poster

Have you noticed the sun has this ever so slight tint of red in it today? That is because it is preparing for BLUT ROT II tomorrow night, as should you! The streets will run blood red as The Coven launches into full red hued apocalyptic chaos!

Mark yourself for war and prepare for the cleansing aural fire provided by our lovely djs including:
Arddhu, Ramiel, Dishlexia, Mandrax, Oblique, Spreckenstein, Changeling, Oblivion and Digi.

To get us in the mood, Digi will be starting the evening with some soothing noise and chaotic ambient before hell gets unleashed with our two newest additions to the fold, Arddhu and Ramiel who will burn our ears with searing metal and filthy dark delights. After we’re nicely warmed up, the sanguinary flood will spill from the sky as a wall of EBM, Aggrotech, Futurepop, Metal, Oldschool Goth, Industrial Electro and Dark Alternative pummels your senses and sets your boots to “STOMP”!

So lace your corsets red, and soak your favourite shirt in the blood of your enemies. BLUT ROT returns tomorrow night!

See you on the dancefloor

Help us choose the theme for the Final 2009 Coven!

December is rapidly approaching and we need to get our marketing department into shape for the final onslaught.. So drop us your suggestions!

For the sake of ultimate cheesiness, if you can think of a theme AND title AND fit the word “Goth” in there it would be awesome (although not necessary), to continue the last two months’ horribly cheesy titles: “Gothtober” and “Goth-O-Ween”.

Here’s some ideas (pilfered from loyal Covenites) to get you started:
- Dark Fantasy
- Masquerade
- 7 Deadly Sins
- Black tie/Formal
- Victorian
- Gore
- Apocalypse

Have a think, utilise your genius and we’ll see if we can make it happen!

Chairs,
Spreckenstein
